Mark McGrath Is Still Alive: I Had Nothing to do With Lame Death Hoax
Despite online rumors to the contrary, Mark McGrath is still alive.
A fake press release circulated online Thursday, claiming that that the 46-year-old Sugar Ray frontman and TV personality had been fatally shot by a masked gunman on the Hollywood set of Adult Swim show Hot Package.
"In honor of Mr. McGrath's legacy, his team is asking in liu [sic] of flowers, fans post a Sugar Ray Selfie, holding a packet of sugar over their heart. #RIPMARKMCGRATH," the press release asked.
The singer quickly cleared things up on Twitter, posting a video of the Edgar Winter & White Trash song "Still Alive and Well."

The singer also refuted claims that he was involved with the hoax as a publicity stunt.
"To be clear, I'm only apologizing to anyone affected by this death hoax, as I am in no way involved with this really lame press release," he tweeted. "I can only hope the people responsible will clear my name, but I won't hold my breath...what was a fun cameo on a show, has become a bummer."

McGrath also hilariously replied to fans on Twitter who jokes with him about self-promotion and losing their celebrity death pools.
"Not even I would orchestrate a death hoax about a guest appearance on a tv show that wasn't mine," he tweeted. "Not a good look, indeed."

The company that sent the press release also cleared McGrath's name with with a revised statement. "Please be advised that Mark McGrath and his team have had no involvement in or knowledge of the media alerts sent earlier this morning," they wrote. "Mr. McGrath is a guest on the show, and his death is merely a plot line in the premiere episode. PRISMATICS take full responsibility for any confusion."
At least everyone wins in this case: Mark McGrath is still alive, we know that Hot Package is a real show and we had an excuse to look up Sugar Ray songs.
