Matthew Perry Wishes 'Friends' Had Never Stopped

But will there be a reunion?

At a recent Hollywood Reporter roundtable, the artist formerly known as Chandler Bing of "Friends" said of the show, "We all decided, 'You know what? Let's stop.' I'd love to get in a time machine right now and go, 'Let's not stop.'"

Of course, this was said (mostly) with tongue in cheek. Perry's struggles with fame and addiction during the show are well-documented, including multiple production-stalling stints in rehab. He eventually converted a Malibu mansion into a sober living home for men transitioning from rehab that garnered him an award from the president's Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Still, it sounds like it was a pretty sweet gig. "'Friends' was getting what, I guess, 'American Idol' gets every week," Perry said about the show's ratings.

"That job was ridiculous ... it was like a 10-4 kind of job, and we only worked a third of the time." Considering that on his most recent show, "Go On," "I work, like, 15 hours a day every day," Perry can be forgiven for looking back on those days with rose-colored glasses.

But would a reunion work today? A special? A Netflix miniseries? A movie? Just last month, "Ellen" hosted three-sixths of a "Friends" get-together, but six-sixths may not be in the cards.

Though certainly game for a talk show sketch, Perry is concerned for the show's legacy, stating in an ABC interview, [http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2013/05/matthew-perry-says-i-dont-think-so-to-friends-reunion/] "If we did a movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it."

Jennifer Aniston is noncommittal but definitely isn't interested in a movie. "It's not normal. 'Friends' is in your living room; 'Friends' is not in a movie theater. It doesn't make sense to me. I think it would be going against its authentic self."

Courteney Cox is probably still too busy with her own "Cougar Town," and, though Lisa Kudrow appears to be interested, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer are both on record as being against it. "I don't want to see old Joey," says LeBlanc.
