Memorial Services Announced for Slain WDBJ Journalist, Camerman

The families of the WDBJ reporter and camerman killed on the air in Virginia last Wednesday will hold services to honor their memories.

Cameraman Adam Ward’s family will hold a funeral service for him on Sept. 1 at the First Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia. His family also held a memorial service at Salem High School for friends to gather and share memories of Ward.

Reporter Alison Parker’s family has not announced a date for her funeral, but they will hold a celebration of her life after a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made instead to the James Madison University Alison Bailey Parker Memorial Scholarship Fund, or the Valley Stars and Salvation Army of Roanoke.

People around the world were shocked after video circulated showing Ward and Parker being shot and killed by a disgruntled ex-employee of the station while they were filming a remote segment in the Roanoke area. Vicki Gardner, who was being interviewed by Parker, was also wounded, but survived.

The shooter fled the scene, but was pursued by police. He then posted video of the shooting that he had taken himself on his cell phone.

Attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful. Ultimately, the shooter died by his own hand of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
