Michael Douglas Offers to Split Emmy With Matt Damon: ‘You Want Top or Bottom?’

The night was gay for all the winners, but especially for HBO’s “Behind the Candelabra” stars.

After winning the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie over his cast mate Matt Damon, Douglas turned to look at his younger co-star and referred to the victory as “two-handed.” Damon waved his hand as if he wanted nothing to do with the reference.

But Douglas was intent on sharing the award with Damon as well as getting in another reference to the roles they played in the TV movie, that of superstar performer Liberace and his longtime partner Scott Thorson.

Douglas told the audience that the award wouldn’t have been possible without his co-star and then said, “You want top or bottom?”

The movie would go on to also win the award for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie. It beat “American Horror Story: Asylum,” “Phil Spector,” “Political Animals,” “Top of the Lake” and “The Bible” for the honor.

Directed by Steven Soderbergh, “Behind the Candelabra” was nominated for a total of 15 Emmys, including directing, cinematography and editing nods for Soderbergh (the last two under pseudonyms). It won 11 Emmys, tying the record for a TV movie.
