So far on this season of "Modern Family," there's been a wedding, a bowling tournament, a college reunion, a golf-off, a birth, and a 65th birthday -- as well as the return of alter egos Clive Bixby and Juliana. There's also been guest stars galore: Everyone from Elizabeth Banks to Matthew Broderick has guested, and Billy Dee Williams even made a hilarious cameo. With five episodes to go before the Season 4 finale, here's what to expect on the Emmy-winning comedy.
The best guestsSpeaking of guests stars, there's a few more on tap before we kiss Season 4 goodbye. Justine Bateman ("Family Ties") takes a turn on the show. And Benjamin Bratt returns as Javier, the ex-husband of Gloria (Sofia Vergara), while his new girlfriend, Trish, will be played by Paget Brewster ("Criminal Minds").
Executive producer Jeffrey Richman told TV Guide, "Different from Javier's usual assortment of bimbos and airheads, Trish is highly intelligent and confident. This brings up new and unexpected feelings for Gloria, which come out in a fiercely competitive game of Charades."
Gloria playing Charades? We can't imagine her not talking!
Flippin' outRemember that house that Cam and Claire (Eric Stonestreet, Julie Bowen) were planning to flip? Well, they'll hit a little snag in the episode "The Wow Factor." In a preview clip (watch it here ), Claire says the key to their teamwork is "trust."
But Cam says, "The key is, I let Claire think she's in charge. I hide what I want in something bigger and more expensive. Then when she rejects that, we 'compromise' on what I wanted all along. I call my method the Trojan horse. You know, how I got Lily? I asked Mitchell for triplets."
So that explains it!
Future perfectOh boy! Nothing like going for a routine angiogram and seeing your future -- in the form of some questionable doppelgängers. That's in Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire's future in the episode "The Future Dunphys." A future Phil? Fans can't wait to see that one, but speaking of doppelgängers, if one of the guest stars looks a tad bit like a pint-sized member of this modern family, perhaps it's because she's totally related to her in real life!
In an interview with MXDWell, comedian Amy Anderson said, "This year is a big transition year for me, getting off the road a bit so I can re-focus my career on acting. I'm very excited about it, and I already booked a guest-star part on 'Modern Family,' which is so fun, because I get to do a scene with my daughter, Aubrey."
That would be Aubrey Emmons-Anderson, who plays Lily on the show. You can check out some stills from the upcoming episodes here, including a pic of Lily's real-life mom.
It's a wrap!Other episodes this season include "Flip Flop" (hmmm, house flipping, anyone?), "Career Day," and "My Hero." But what about the May 22 season finale? Can the Season 4 finale even come close to last season's shocking Gloria's pregnancy cliffhanger? Looks like mum's the word, but the final scene of the season appears to take place in the Dunphy living room.
"Modern Family" airs on Wednesdays at 9 PM ET on ABC.
