MTV Ending Original 'Teen Mom' After Season 4

With a fourth season of "16 & Pregnant" set to premiere on March 27, MTV has announced the upcoming fourth season of "Teen Mom" will be the final season for the original cast of the "16 & Pregnant" spin-off series.

"16 & Pregnant" premiered in July 2009, and in December 2009, four girls featured during the show's first season were chosen to star in the spin-off, "Teen Mom," which continued to chronicle the girls' difficult journeys as single teen parents.

Farrah Abraham, Maci Bookout, Catelynn Lowell and Amber Portwood were breakout reality stars for MTV, as "Teen Mom" portrayed Bookout and Portwood's tempestuous relationships with the fathers of their children, Abraham's sometimes violent relationship with her disapproving mother and Lowell's struggle, with boyfriend and father of her child Tyler, to deal with her decision to allow another couple to adopt her daughter.

"Season four will be the final season of 'Teen Mom' with Maci, Catelynn, Amber and Farrah," MTV says in a statement. "They will continue to be a part of our MTV family, and we're thankful to these brave young women for sharing their stories and helping to make a positive impact on teen pregnancy prevention."

MTV has not set a premiere date for the fourth season, though a spokeswoman says it will likely air in summer 2012.

A premiere date for the third season of "Teen Mom 2" -- featuring Jenelle Evans, Chelsea Houska, Kailyn Lowry and Leah Messer --- has not been announced, though MTV has planned a "Teen Mom 3" spin-off, which will feature girls featuring in the new season of "16 & Pregnant."
