NBC Developing Comedy Starring Kenan Thompson & Produced By Lorne Michaels

Kenan Thompson eying an exit from Saturday Night Live, what up with that? NBC is developing a primetime comedy starring the SNL veteran and executive produced by SNL boss Lorne Michaels. According to TV Guide, the untitled family comedy, which has a script commitment from the network, would star Thompson as a man who moves in with his in-laws. Another member of the SNL team, writer Bryan Tucker, is writing the script and will executive produce with Thompson, Michaels and Andrew Singer (30 Rock).

This would mark Thompson’s return to comedy series, where he first rose to fame on Nickelodeon with All That and its spinoff Kenan & Kel. On SNL, where he has been for the past 10 seasons, Thompson is best known for playing Deandre Cole, the singing host of fictional BET talk show What Up With That, and for a host of impersonations, including Al Sharpton, Bill Cosby and Whoopi Goldberg.

Michaels is known for transitioning on and off-screen SNL talent to NBC’s primetime. He executive produces two NBC comedy series: departing 30 Rock and sophomore Up All Night. He also is attached to a comedy script co-written by SNL head writer Seth Meyers.
