The scripted, half-hour, Curb Your Enthusiasm-like venture will be inspired by Simpson’s life; the presentation will give the network a sense for whether or not it wants to move forward with the sitcom.
Electus and Universal Television will produce the multi-camera project. Simpson and Electus head Ben Silverman currently collaborate on NBC’s Fashion Star, which returns for a second season on March 8.
“I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life — so between the real life elements and a great team of writers, I think we’ll have people laughing!,” Simpson said in a statement.
The potential series will be another shot at acting for Simpson, who appeared on That ’70s Show and in movies like The Dukes of Hazzard. She became a recognizable name through the MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, which chronicled the start of her marriage with now-ex-husband Nick Lachey.
