NBC’s ‘The Wiz’ First Look Teases David Alan Grier as Cowardly Lion, Ne-Yo as Tin Man

NBC has released a first-look image of the main cast of its upcoming live musical “The Wiz” in character. The artwork features David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion, Shanice Williams as Dorothy, Ne-Yo as the Tin Man and Elijah Kelley as the Scarecrow.

In addition to the cast featured in the image the upcoming live musical stars Uzo Aduba, Amber Riley, Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (“The Sound of Music Live!,” “Peter Pan Live!,” Oscar-winning “Chicago”) will executive produce. Kenny Leon (Tony winner, “A Raisin in the Sun”) is stage director and Matthew Diamond is TV director, with Harvey Fierstein (three-time Tony winner, “Torch Song Trilogy,” “Hairspray” and “La Cage aux Folles”) providing new written material.

Universal Television is producing the telecast.

“The Wiz” will be broadcast live on NBC Thursday Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. ET.
