‘Orange Is The New Black’ Adds Regular, ‘Mentalist’ Books Henry Ian Cusick & More

EXCLUSIVE: Star Trek: Voyager alumna Kate Mulgrew has been cast as a regular on Orange Is The New Black, Netflix’s new 13-episode hourlong series from Weeds creator Jenji Kohan. It centers on Piper (Taylor Schilling), an engaged Brooklynite whose decade-old relationship with a drug-runner (Laura Prepon) in college results in her arrest and multi-year detention in a federal penitentiary. Mulgrew, repped by Innovative and Viking Entertainment, will play Red, a Russian prisoner who runs the kitchen and serves as a mother figurehead for the women.

Lost alum Henry Ian Cusick is set for a three-episode arc on CBS’ crime procedural The Mentalist. He will play Tommy Volker, a multi-millionaire adventurer playboy who comes under suspicion when a television reporter is murdered. Cusick was most recently a regular on the first season of ABC’s new drama Scandal but left the series as it headed into Season 2.

The Wire alum Seth Gilliam has booked the recurring role in AMC’s Untitled Lagravenese/Goldwyn pilot, a legal thriller centered on Adam Page (Damon Gupton), a District Attorney who uncovers new evidence that prompts the reinvestigation of a sensational murder. Gilliam, repped by Gersh and McGowan Management, will play Adam’s younger brother, a handsome uniformed cop. He is also doing multiple episodes of Teen Wolf for MTV.

Hudson Thames has booked a recurring role on ABC Family’s The Secret Life Of The American Teenager playing Brian, a good looking boy in Kathy’s (Cierra Ramirez) class who asks her to mentor him for the upcoming spelling bee. Hudson is also a guest star/potential recurring on the new ABC comedy Malibu Country, playing Reba McEntire’s neighbor’s (Sara Rue) son. On the feature side, Hudson, repped by the Savage Agency, Genesis Entertainment Partners and Ginsburg Daniels, just wrapped indie The A List.
