Oscar Nuñez Insists 'Office' Cast Doesn't Pull Pranks [Video]

Pranks and NBC's "The Office" have been practically synonymous since Episode 1. Who can forget Dwight's stapler in the Jell-O? But guess what, Dunder Mifflin fans: The pranks are all fiction for the cast of NBC's soon-to-end sitcom, according to Oscar Nuñez, who plays accountant Oscar Martinez. "Why are you guys hung up on pranks? Everybody wants pranks!" Nuñez told Ben Lyons of Yahoo!'s "The Sidebar," when Lyons asked about on-set shenanigans. "It's a job. We just go to work like everyone else. We're not big pranksters," Nuñez added before driving his point home by suggesting that infamous prankster George Clooney subcontracts his pranks.

When chatting about the hilarious Steve Carell, Nuñez had only good things to say: "We got really lucky that he was the lead. He would be like a Peter Sellers if we were back in the '60s. He's that good. He's just that funny."

What about Carell's attitude between takes? Did he do anything to "keep everybody at ease, to lighten the mood?" Lyons asked. "No, he's just a regular [guy]. It's not like he's this overpowering personality-presence guy. That would be weird," Nuñez said.

The big mystery now is whether Carell, who left at the end of Season 7, will appear in the series finale. As of now, it looks like the answer is yes -- make that a very conservative yes.

In a conference call with reporters, showrunner Greg Daniels defused speculation about Carell making a last appearance: "I think Steve felt, and I agree, that the 'Goodbye, Michael' episode was his goodbye, and he didn't want to overshadow the ending that all the other characters deserved."

That said, TV Line is reporting that it's learned exclusively that Carell will, in fact, be part of the show's swan song -- but that's all the details they dished. Also encouraging is that Carell did stop by the wrap party, which took place in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The anticipation is intense!

What else did Nuñez have to say about the show he has starred on for nine seasons? "I think it's like 'Cheers' ... or 'Mary Tyler Moore.' I think Ricky Gervais did a fantastic thing. It's one of those shows that you're, like, 'Oh, this is really cool.' It's a whole brand-new way of doing things." Also, interesting: When Nuñez went in to audition, he really thought they'd shoot the pilot and that would be it. Lucky for fans of great comedy, that was not the case.

"The Office" series finale airs on Thursday, 5/16 at 9 PM on NBC.
