'Parks and Rec': Where Season 4 left off

As the "Parks & Recreation" Season 5 premiere approaches, fans are anxious to see what will happen next. Here's a little refresher about where the show left off.

After a hard-fought election, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), who up until now had been the head of the Pawnee Parks and Recreation Department, earned a city council seat. This fulfilled a lifelong dream to serve in elected office.

Her boyfriend/campaign manager, Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott), had been unemployed for much of the previous season after nobly stepping down from his county job to avoid causing trouble for Leslie, since the county has a "no fraternization" policy between employees. But his gutsy, creative approach to the campaign won more than the election. He so impressed his opponent's campaign manager, Jennifer Barkley (Kathryn Hahn), that she offered him a job in Washington. After discussions with Leslie, she urged him to accept the job offer.

Other characters also ended the previous season with promising changes. Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) rejected an offer from city manager Chris Traeger (Rob Lowe) to become the assistant city manager. This means he is in a good position to take over the Parks and Rec Department as Leslie begins her work with the council.

The on-again, off-again romance between Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones) and Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) promises to turn interesting, as she agreed at the end of last season to move in with him. And shoe-shine man/rock star wannabe Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt) came to an interesting realization: What he'd really like to pursue as a career is police work. His wife, April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza) was backing him on this idea.

At this point, very little information has been released about the direction this season might take, but according to clips that have been released on the show's official site, in the premiere episode, Leslie will travel to D.C. to visit with Ben, who is running a congressional campaign. There, she will take care of some official Pawnee business and meet some of her real-life political heroes.
