Philadelphia Mayor Performs ‘Rapper’s Delight’ With ‘Tonight Show’ Band The Roots (Video)

“Tonight Show” band The Roots helped Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter impress his constituents on Saturday with a performance of “Rapper’s Delight.”

The politician joined Jimmy Fallon‘s friends on stage at the Philly 4th of July Jam, the Pennsylvania city’s annual Independence Day celebration, and rapped the entire song without missing a beat. He completed his performance by dropping the microphone — a stage move that elicited a huge applause from the audience.

This isn’t the first time Mayor Nutter showed off his rap skills. He previously performed the track with The Roots at his second inauguration.

The mayor’s musical ability stems from his days as a professional DJ in the Philadelphia club scene before the start of his political career.
