Amid mounting signatures in the petition to get Piers Morgan deported back to his native United Kingdom, a new letter has surfaced asking the White House to keep him in the U.S.A.

So far, there's only 309 signatures with 24,691 needed by Jan. 24 to reach the goal of 25,000. Created on Christmas Day, the petition reads:

We want to keep Piers Morgan in the USA. There are two very good reasons for this. Firstly, the first amendment. Second and the more important point. No one in the UK wants him back. Actually there is a third. It will be hilarious to see how loads of angry Americans react.

Meanwhile, another Morgan petition -- this one, in response to the CNN anchor's calls for stricter gun control laws after the Sandy Hook shooting school -- has amassed more than 71,000 signatures on the White House’s We the People website. (Petitions that gain 30,0000 signatures within 30 days receive a review by policy makers as well as an official White House response.)

"We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens," it says.

Morgan's response? Amusement, based on his Twitter activity. "Merry Christmas! Even to those who want me deported," he wroteTuesday.

Morgan became the focus of the petition after clashing with gun rights advocates on Piers Morgan Tonight following the Newton tragedy resulting in the deaths of 20 children and six educators. On an episode airing hours after the killings, Morgan asked a gun advocate guest: "How many kids have to die before you guys say, ‘We want less guns, not more?'"
