'Pretty Little Liars' Midseason Finale Offers More Questions Than Answers

Yahoo Contributor Network

The build-up to the "Pretty Little Liars" midseason finale was huge. Fans were promised answers, most especially about who wears the mysterious red coat, but when the episode ended, everything made even less sense than before. Let's take a look at the most confusing aspects of the "PLL" finale.

Mona doesn't know who Red Coat is

Mona (Janel Parrish) has been the enemy for a long time. Driving Spencer (Troian Bellisario) over the edge has been her favorite game this season, and she succeeded, too. However, when Mona realized she'd been set up by Spencer and Toby (Keegan Allen), she freaked. She then told the pretty little liars she had no idea who Red Coat is, either, in spite of "working" for her! Why would anyone make a deal with someone without knowing who they were? Sure, it could have been fear, but at the time, Mona was safely locked away in Radley. But more than that, Mona was "A" for months before she was caught, and it was made clear more than once that she was working for someone. It's all very confusing!

How is Shana suddenly involved with Jenna and Melissa?

Shana (Aeriel Miranda) wandered into "Pretty Little Liars" as if she'd been there the whole time and we'd somehow missed her presence. She was first spotted flirting with Paige (Lindsey Shaw), and then randomly introduced Emily (Shay Mitchell) to Olympic medalist Missy Franklin as if they'd been friends forever. So, when we saw Shana hanging out with Jenna (Tammin Sursok) and Melissa (Torrey DeVitto), it seemed a little odd. How in the world could they possibly know each other? Is she on some kind of anti-liars team now, too?

How are Shana and Jenna involved with Wilden?

When Ashley Marin (Laura Leighton) hit Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson) with her car, a collective cheer of joy was heard. Sadly, he survived, and Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Aria (Lucy Hale) dumped his cop car in the lake to get rid of the evidence. However, somebody went to the trouble of fishing the car out and left it for the girls to find. In spite of it being plunged underwater for goodness knows how long, the video player showing Ashley knocking Wilden down was still playing. And then there was more. It was Shana and Jenna who picked Wilden up from the road and carried him away. This is baffling in so many ways. First, the Shana connection is still very much unexplained. Secondly, Jenna wasn't even in town when it happened -- not visibly, anyway. How did she have time to form a connection with Shana, and how do they both know Wilden? We know Melissa knows him, so there's a definite link there, but it's still quite illogical to believe a grown woman like Melissa would team up with schoolgirls to torment her sister and her best friends.

Ali is Red Coat

This is being listed as a confusion, although, it's not that complicated. Most hardcore fans have suspected this for a while. After all, all of the liars have seen Ali (Sasha Pieterse) at some point since her death. The biggest question is -- is it her, or did she really have a twin sister nobody knew about?
