RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Kitchen Nightmares’ Falls, ‘Hannibal’ Surges, ’20/20′ Up As ABC Wins Demo For Friday

There was a lot cooking on primetime last night and Friday’s menu was a mix of the undercooked and the more-than-just-right. The second week of Season 6 of Fox’s Kitchen Nightmares traveled to the troubled Old Neighborhood Restaurant in Arvada, CO and to a Greek joint in Queens, NY, where the owner couple were in almost as much trouble as their establishment. Unfortunately for the two-hour reality show, the trouble didn’t stop there: the Gordon Ramsay series took a 17% dive from its 8 PM (1.0/4) premiere April 11 and an 18% drop from its 9 PM (0.9/3) broadcast last week.

On the gastrological flipside, NBC’s resident cannibal was served a much-appreciated meal. The sometimes unsteady Hannibal (0.9/3) took a big bite of the ratings to garner a 29% rise over last week. With less competition in its 10 PM time slot, that’s best that the thriller series has done in three weeks among adults 18-49. Additionally, last night’s episode was also up 30% among total viewers from its April 11 show to 2.930 million. Part of Hannibal’s surge has to be credited to the rise of its lead-in: Dateline (1.2/4) was up 9% from its last original April 3.

Through ABC won the night among the key demo again with a 1.5/5, its primetime was a jambalaya with some ingredients tasting better than others. While even with last week’s preliminary results and winning its 8 PM slot, Last Man Standing (1.1/5) dipped 8% from the final numbers of its April 12 show. Shark Tank (1.6/6) was also even with its preliminary results from last week but down 11% from its April 11 final numbers. With that in mind, as it has often before, the entrepreneurial reality series went up two tenths in the final nationals last week, so a similar shift wouldn’t be out of the question. What is without question is how well 20/20 (1.8/6) did last night for ABC. With its second-best result this season, the newsmag jumped up 20% from last week among 18-49s and was also the night’s second-most-watched show with 8.20 million tuning in.

On the CW, Whose Line Is It Anyway? (0.4/2) and Hart Of Dixie (0.3/1) were even with last week.

Last night’s Unforgettable (0.9/4) on CBS was delayed in almost 10% of the country because of local telethon coverage, which means preliminary ratings for the third week of the return of the procedural are tentative and likely to change when the final numbers come in. Having said that, the series is down 10% from last week right now. The network was all encores for the rest of the night but even in repeats Blue Bloods (0.9/3) was again the night’s most-watched show with 8.39 million tuning in to see more Selleck. Which is why CBS was behind Univision last night adults 18-49 with a 0.8/3 but was the most-watched network overall with 7.33 million.
