RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘The Voice’, ‘DWTS’ & ‘NCIS: LA’ Hit Lows, ‘Grimm’ & ‘Hart Of Dixie’ Up

You know we’re in the May sweep now as the wildcard element came into play Tuesday. Going to two hours last night for the first of two Tuesdays in a row, The Voice (3.7/11) was  again in Knockout Round mode with Team Blake and Team Usher cutting to a final four like fellow judges Adam Levine and Shakira did the night before. While easily the highest-rated show on TV last night, Voice tumbled 10% from its 8-9 PM airing April 23 to hit a season low. That’s the second Tuesday in a row the NBC series has been up against a new NCIS (3.0/10) on CBS, and the second Tuesday in a row it was down double digits. Things are about to get a lot more interesting too: Tonight will see a network reality trifecta as The Voice, American Idol and Survivor go head-to-head-to-head for the first time this season.

Following The Voice last night was Grimm (2.0/5) in its new Tuesday slot, replacing the now-cut Ready For Love. Not only did Grimm deliver far better that its slot predecessor (up from Ready For Love’s 1.0/3 on April 23), but as expected the Voice lead-in proved a healthy jolt for the police procedural. It was up 54% from its last Friday broadcast April 26, marking the series’ highest-rated episode since October.

The most-watched show of the night with 17.68 million viewers, NCIS bopped up 7% from its April 22 episode. The same could not be said of NCIS: LA (2.2/6), which fell 19% to a series low as it faced the extended hour of The Voice. Its lead-out, freshman Golden Boy (1.3/4), also suffered. Down 7%, the new show tied its lowest-rated Tuesday broadcast. With 12.79 million watching, CBS was No. 1 in viewers Tuesday while NBC took the top spot in the adults 18-49 demo.

Over on ABC, reality took a hit as well. Splash (0.9/3) sunk 18% from last week to hit a season low. It was results night on Dancing With The Stars (1.5/4)) on Tuesday, and of course that meant that someone was getting kicked off the dance floor. It also saw the show fall 25% from the spring season low of last week to a series low. After DWTS, it was an ABC News special in the slot usually occupied by Body Of Proof at 10 PM, Murder, Mystery, Amanda Knox Speaks (1.7/5) saw Diane Sawyer handling the first TV interview with the now-acquitted college student. With 8.56 million watching the interview last night Body Of Proof might want to watch its back because the special was also up 6% among adults 18-49 from the show’s April 22 airing, delivering a 12-week high in the slot for ABC in the 18-49 and 25-54 demos.

Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen (1.9/5) slipped 5% from last week, while lead-out New Girl (2.0/6) was down 9% from its last original April 9. Following that, The Mindy Project (1.3/3) was also down. The comedy fell 13% from its last original three weeks ago.

The CW’s only original of the night was Hart Of Dixie (0.5/2). The drama was up 25% from last week’s series low and up 10% from last week in total viewers.
