Ratings Rat Race: ‘X Factor’, ‘Survivor’, CBS Dramas, ABC Sitcoms, Holiday Specials Up

The networks extended their streak of week-to-week ratings increases to three nights last night when most series were up from their most recent originals. Topping the list of percentage gains were the two Wednesday reality series, which both had shows last week on the low-trafficked night before Thanksgiving, making the week-to-week comparisons favorable. Fox’s The X Factor Top 8 performance show (2.8/8 in adults 18-49) was up 27% to log a nightly demo victory for Fox (tied with ABC). CBS’ Survivor: Philippines (2.7/8) was up 17%. CBS’ other series, Criminal Minds (2.9/8) and CSI (2.6/7) were also up, by 7% and 8%, respectively.

ABC and NBC kicked off the holiday season with holiday specials. ABC aired A Charlie Brown Christmas (2.9/8), which was up a tenth from last year. Modern Family (4.7/12) was up a tenth from its last original two weeks ago, Suburgatory (2.6/7) was up 8%, while Nashville (1.8/5) was flat.

NBC’s Christmas In Rockefeller Center (2.1/6) was up 11% from last year to post a four-year high. It was followed by Saturday Night Live’s SNL Christmas special (2.7/7). It was a solid showing for NBC on one of its weaker nights this fall, with the network posting its second-highest Wednesday average this season only behind November 7, when it aired The Voice on the night. The CW’s Arrow (3.7 million, 1.2/3 in 18-49, 1.0/3 in 18-34) was up a tenth in 18-34 from its last original two weeks ago and flat in 18-34. Supernatural (2.1 million, 0.9/2 in 18-49) was down a tenth in 18-49.
