Ratings: ‘Sunday Night Football’ Viewers Jump 43 Percent With Big Broncos OT Win

The Denver Broncos handed the New England Patriots their first loss of the season on a snowy Sunday Night in Denver. And with the underdog overtime victory on its lucky airwaves, NBC crushed its primetime competition.

While fast national numbers are admittedly unreliable for live sporting events, “Sunday Night Football” is currently up 38 percent in the key 18-49 demographic when compared to last week — and a huge 43 percent in total viewers. In the metered market results, the game is up 16 percent versus last year’s comparable New York Giants versus Dallas Cowboys contest — which is not exactly a creampuff matchup itself.

With the numbers that are in now, NBC was first in ratings with a 6.2 rating/17 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 18.7 million. The network’s lineup was all pregame until kickoff.

ABC was third in ratings with a 1.1/3 and in viewers with 4.2 million. Following a rerun, “Once Upon a Time” at 8 received a 1.3/4 and 4.3 million viewers. “Blood & Oil” at 9 posted a 0.9/2 and 3.2 million viewers. “Quantico” at 10 had a 1.2/4 and 4.1 million viewers.

Fox was fourth in ratings with a 0.7/2 and in viewers with 1.9 million. At 7, the network’s “Breakthrough Prize” special managed just a 0.4/1 and 1.4 million viewers. Reruns followed.
