Ratings: 'The Voice,' 'Mindy Project' Rise; 'Private Practice' Hits a Bump

NBC's "The Voice" and Fox's "The Mindy Project" grew Tuesday night, while ABC's "Private Practice" dropped to a series low as it winds its way to a series finale, according to preliminary numbers.

NBC drew first place in the advertiser-friendly 18-49 demographic with a 2.6 rating/7 share and second in total viewers with 7 million. The ratings victory was due largely to "The Voice" at 8 p.m., which jumped 27 percent from last Thursday's episode (NBC, like the other networks, ran election coverage last Tuesday).

"The Voice" was the night's top-rated program with a 3.8/11, and drew 11 million total viewers. "Go On" the following hour received a 2.3/6, down slightly from its last original three weeks ago, and drew 6.3 million total viewers, while "The New Normal" at 9:30 grew slightly from three weeks ago to a 1.8/5 and took 4.7 million total viewers. "Parenthood" at 10 also posted a 1.8/5 with 4.7 million total viewers.

CBS took a narrow second place in ratings and a commanding first in total viewers with a 2.5/7 and 14.3 million. "NCIS" slid 12 percent from two weeks ago to a 3.0/9, but grabbed the night's highest total viewership with 16.9 million. "NCIS: LA" the following hour remained even with last week with a 2.8/7 and had 15.7 million total viewers. The freshman drama "Vegas" experienced a minor decline, drawing a 1.6/4 and taking 10.4 million total viewers.

Fox, which took third place in ratings and fifth in total viewers with a 1.7/4 and 3.5 million, experienced its ups and downs Tuesday night, starting with "Raising Hope" at 8, which saw a modest decline to a 1.6/5 with 3.8 million total viewers. "Ben & Kate" at 8:30 dropped 21 percent, taking a 1.1/3 with 2.5 million total viewers. "New Girl" posted a 2.2/6 with 4.3 million total viewers, while "The Mindy Project" at 9:30 jumped 13 percent for a 1.7/4 and attracted 3.2 million total viewers.

Univision came in fourth in ratings and total viewers with a 1.6/4 and 4 million.

ABC took fifth place in ratings and third in total viewers with a 1.4/4 and 6.5 million. "Dancing With the Stars" at 8 inched up to a 1.9/5 and drew 11.9 million total viewers, while "Happy Endings" at 9 drew even for a 1.4/4 with 4.8 million. "Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23" at 9:30 slid 8 percent to a series low of 1.1/3 and had 3.2 million total viewers, while "Private Practice" at 10, which is ending its run after the current season, dropped 21 percent to a series low, posting a 1.1/3 and taking 3.7 million total viewers.
