Ready to Check Into 'Bates Motel'?

We all go a little mad sometimes. Haven't you? The story behind Alfred Hitchcock's horror classic Psycho is turning into a TV series on A&E courtesy of some of the driving forces behind Lost and Friday Night Lights

Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights and Parenthood) will serve as as executive producers on Bates Motel, which is being described as a cross between Twin Peaks and Smallville. Inspired by Hitchcock's genre-defining 1960 film, A&E says that the show will be "a contemporary exploration of the formative years of Norman Bates, [his] relationship with his mother, Norma, and the world they inhabit. Viewers will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first-hand how Norma helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all."

A&E is very confident in Bates Motel, bypassing a pilot and moving straight to series with a 10-episode order; pre-production and casting will begin immediately on the show, which will premiere in 2013.
