Report: Mariah Carey in Talks to Be American Idol Judge

Mariah Carey is in talks to join American Idol as a judge, People reports.

"She's in play," an insider tells the magazine. "They are in serious talks."

Steven Tyler exits American Idol after two seasons

Fox declined to comment and an email to Carey's rep was not immediately returned.

The report comes a day after Steven Tyler's exit and amidst heavy speculation that Jennifer Lopez also won't return for Season 12. Lopez told Today's Natalie Morales on Thursday, "it's maybe time for me to go."

This is not the first time that Carey, who has worked with original Idol judge Randy Jackson, has been rumored to be in the running for a judging gig on a Fox singing competition series. Simon Cowell reportedly pursued Carey for The X Factor judging panel for Season 1 and she was rumored to be in the mix for Season 2 after Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger were fired.

Adam Lambert to become American Idol judge?

Earlier this week, E! reported that Idol alum Adam Lambert was also in talks to join Idol as a judge.
