In keeping with his highly private life, Robert Pattinson kept mum about all things Kristen Stewart during his first interview since the news broke that she had cheated on him.

To promote his upcoming film Cosmopolis, Pattinson appeared on The Daily Show Monday night, where Jon Stewart offered the Twilight star some comfort food: Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

Report: Robert Pattinson is crashing at Reese Witherspoon's

"We're just a couple of gals talking," Stewart said. "The last time I had a bad breakup, Ben and Jerry got me through some of the tougher times." A lighthearted Pattinson enjoyed some of the ice cream, but declined to eat more. "I'm going to split my Spanx," he joked.

The one thing Pattinson weighed in on was the fact that he's gone through this ordeal without help in the professional sense. "I'm cheap and I didn't hire a publicist," Pattinson said, explaining that usually a rep would be able to help script what he would say during an interview to address his feelings about his Twilight co-star and girlfriend. "I'm going to hire a publicist," he said, to which Stewart replied that a time machine might be more helpful to deal with the scandal and its fallout.

Even when Stewart joked that Pattinson would be better off without Kristen, the actor skirted the subject, only offering a small mention for the Twilight followers who undoubtedly tuned in to see how he was doing. After calling Monday's episode of The Daily Show the "Twilight Show," Pattinson implored the fans to go out and see his new film Cosmopolis.

Kristen Stewart apologizes for cheating on Robert Pattinson

In July, Kristen quickly issued a very public apology for cheating on Pattinson with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. Their daytime fling was caught on camera, prompting Kristen and Sanders, who is married and has two children, to issue apologies.

How do you think Pattinson handled his first appearance since the scandal?
