Roger Ebert Reveals New Cancer Diagnosis

Movie critic Roger Ebert says he's been diagnosed with cancer again and will scale back his workload to resume treatment.

The 70-year-old Chicago Sun-Times film critic announced the new diagnosis last night on his personal blog and said he'll be taking what he called "a leave of presence."

Ebert revealed that a hip fracture he suffered in December led to the new diagnosis of cancer and he is currently being treated with radiation. He provided no other details about this health condition.

"I am not going away," the Pulitzer Prize winner promised. "My intent is to continue to write selected reviews but to leave the rest to a talented team of writers. ... What's more, I'll be able at last to do what I've always fantasized about doing: reviewing only the movies I want to review."

In addition to the movie reviews he'll write, Ebert said he also plans to write about his own illnesses. The longtime movie critic has already battled cancer in his thyroid and salivary glands and lost the ability to speak and eat during previous surgeries, which also left him with facial disfigurement.
