Sam Register Upped To President Of Warner Bros. Animation, Will Head New Digital Unit

Warner Bros Animation’s EVP Creative Affairs Sam Register has been promoted to President, Warner Bros Animation and Warner Digital Series. The second part of the title refers to Register’s role as head of a newly formed live-action digital content production unit where he will oversee the development and production of original live-action digital series, working with both Warner Bros TV-based creative talent as well as outside writers and producers. The studio already has such a division in Studio 2.0, which has spawned series like Childrens Hospital, which migrated to TV via Adult Swim. It is unclear whether Studio 2.0 will be absorbed by the new unit or remain autonomous. Register also will continue to run Warner Bros’ television animation unit as president, after having served as EVP Creative Affairs for the past six years. He will continue to report to Warner Bros Television Group President and Chief Content Officer Peter Roth.

“Sam has done an outstanding job shepherding Warner Bros Animation over the past six years, reinvigorating one of the most storied and accomplished animation production companies in this industry,” Roth said. “His creative instincts coupled with boundless enthusiasm, passion and energy were all key drivers in WBA’s recent successes, and I know that he will bring the same level of leadership and commitment to his new mission of building and expanding our digital series business.”

Register joined WBA in November 2007 as a producer with a development and production deal and was named EVP Creative Affairs a year later. During his tenure, he has mined the studio library, reviving some of Warner Bros’ most popular animated brands. Current WBA television series developed and supervised by him include Teen Titans Go!, The Tom And Jerry Show, and the upcoming Be Cool Scooby-Doo! and Wabbit – A Looney Tunes Production, for Cartoon Network, as well as the upcoming Mike Tyson Mysteries for Adult Swim. Register also oversees creative efforts for WBA’s animated shorts, and he works closely with Warner Bros Home Entertainment on the studio’s original animated movies, including recent titles Justice League: War, Son Of Batman and Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery.

Before joining Warner Bros, Register was a producer and senior animation executive at Cartoon Network for 10 years.
