Sanaa Lathan Reunites With ‘Love & Basketball’ Director for Fox Event Series

Sanaa Lathan is set to star in a new event series chronicling the aftermath of a police shooting involving an African-American cop and a white teen in Tennessee The project is in development at Fox.

The untitled event series hails from “Beyond the Lights” director Gina Price-Bythewood and producer Reggie Rock-Bythewood.

Lathan will play an expert investigator who digs into the case, alongside a special prosecutor sent to the town by the Department of Justice. The pair must navigate the media attention, public debate and the social unrest that comes with such a volatile case, as they seek justice before the divided town erupts in a race war.

Gina Price-Bythewood and Reggie Rock-Bythewood will write and executive produce the series, while Gina Price-Bythewood will direct. Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo will also serve as executive producers.

The drama will be produced by Undisputed Cinema and Imagine Television, in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

Lathan is coming off of “The Perfect Guy” and previously worked with Gina Price-Bythewood on 2000’s “Love and Basketball.”
