If you don't know about this show, you will. The drama has scored both a series and a season high in ratings for adult viewers. It's officially a hit. The "Defiance" episode of ABC drama "Scandal" was a sizzler!
"Scandal" is the brainchild of genius creator Shonda Rhimes. Rhimes also created the steamy doctor's soap "Grey's Anatomy." The writer, producer, creator cut her teeth on such projects as Halle Berry's award-winning "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge." The prolific TV doyenne will enter the situation comedy game next in collaboration with Issa Rae of "Awkward Black Girl" web series fame.
"Scandal" viewers were treated to the blockbuster episode "Defiance" on Nov. 29. "Who shot Fitz?" is the new "Who shot J.R.?"
President Fitzgerald Grant is aptly played by Tony Goldwyn. The hunk is the perfect partner for the show's talented star, Kerry Washington. After this series, she should be able to command big dollars on the silver screen.
The beautiful actress is captivating as professional political fixer, Olivia Pope. Pope can kick anyone's butt and look like she's on the cover of Vogue as she does it. Clearly she is always the smartest guy in the room. "Olivia Pope it" has become synonymous with quarterbacking a tricky situation to scandalous victory.
The intriguing "Scandal" storyline consistently has viewers gasping and wanting more. President Fitz is gunned down on his birthday as his former mistress, Olivia, steps out with her new/old lover, Senator Edison Davis. Davis is played by actor Norm Lewis. Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young), the disgruntled first lady, is an instant suspect as is Texas oil tycoon Hollis Doyle (Gregg Henry). This is must-see TV.
Twitter and other social networks were ablaze with trending topics related to the show as Olivia Pope's former lover, and the leader of the country, was gunned down. The #Scandal #Defiance episode provided the on-screen hashtag, #WhoShotFitz and the show's team held an immediate Tweet chat with the #AskScandal hashtag to capitalize on the big bang episode.
The dramatic series is based on the real life of Washington insider Judy Smith. Art is imitating life as the real PR fixer has been called to the table in the General Petraeus scandal. Socialite Jill Kelley, the woman at the center of the story, has hired Judy Smith and her associates as her crisis management team. Monica Lewinsky was one of Smith's past clients.
So, who shot Fitz? With Shonda Rhimes, it's anyone's guess. Check your local listings to watch ABC's "Scandal" and find out.
