Season 2 of the podcast Serial won't premiere until the fall, but producers are already working on Season 3.

Host and executive producer Sarah Koenig shared the news with subscribers in a newsletter this week.

Serial subject Adnan Syed may get a new trial

"We are hard at work reporting not one, but two distinct new stories," Koenig wrote. "We hope it means we can reduce the amount of time between the end of Season Two and the beginning of Season Three. As it stands, we intend to launch Season Two this fall and Season Three next spring."

"Sorry - we can't tell you details about the new stories yet," she added. "What we can say is that they're very different from Season One, but no less interesting to us."

Season 1 of Serial followed the case of Adnan Syed, who was convicted of the 1999 murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, when both were seniors in high school. Syed is currently serving a life sentence; however, he was granted an appeal earlier this year after Serial concluded. A panel of judges is scheduled to hear his argument in its June session, at which time Syed could be given a new trial or be allowed to present new evidence in his case.

Season 1 of Serial, an immense hit among listeners, was honored with a Peabody Award last year and was parodied on Saturday Night Live.
