Stars that Got Their Start on 'General Hospital'

Yahoo Contributor Network

Since first airing in 1963, "General Hospital" has seen many characters come in and out of plotlines. Sometimes, these actors go on to do small things, while others go on to be famous television or movie stars. It seems the casting directors for the show really know what they are doing. Some of the biggest movie and television stars got their first big break by landing a role on the show. These are stars you may recognize that moved on to the big time after, and even during, their stint on "General Hospital."

Demi Moore

In the early '80s, Moore played Jackie Templeton on "General Hospital." Her stint was only from 1982 to 1983. After leaving the show, she became one of the highest paid actresses in the 1990s. She starred in movies like "St. Elmo's Fire," "Ghost," and "Indecent Proposal." She married Ashton Kutcher in 2005 after her marriage to Bruce Willis ended. Currently, Kutcher and Moore are activists for raising awareness to human trafficking in the United States. Who would have thought such a powerful women would have evolved from being a soap actress in the 1980s?

John Stamos

Stamos played the role of Blackie Parrish on "General Hospital" from 1982 through 1984. After leaving his role, Stamos went on to play Uncle Jesse on the sitcom "Full House." After "Full House" ended, he did other shows, a few musicals, and even helped direct music videos for his pals, The Beach Boys. He recently had a recurring guest role of the award-winning show "Glee." Sounds like he got a sweet deal from being cast on "General Hospital."

Amber Tamblyn

When Tamblyn was just in her early teens, she landed the role of Emily Bowen on the show. Later in the show, Emily was adopted by Alan and Monica Quartermaine, thus changing the character name to Emily Quartermaine. She kept the role from 1995 through 2001. After leaving the show, she starred in a few movies, such as "The Ring" and "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," and has most recently been seen on the hit series "House."

Vanessa Marcil

Marcil is an all-time fan favorite from "General Hospital." She played the role of Brenda Barrett, who was the love interest of mob boss Sonny Corinthos. Her stint on the show lasted from 1992-1998. Since leaving the show in 1998, she has made subsequent guest appearances in the role of Brenda Barrett. Currently she is on the show, but will be exiting again shortly. After her first stint on the show, she went on to have roles on "NYPD Blue," "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Las Vegas."
