Survivor is introducing a new twist this fall: Fans can vote on their favorite non-winning contestants from past seasons to determine who will compete in Season 31.

This will be the first time that fans pick an entire cast. Host Jeff Probst shared the news in a pre-taped announcement at the end of Wednesday's episode of Survivor: Worlds Apart.

Finale Preview: Get scoop on 35 must-watch season-enders

"The idea of a 'second chance' season started brewing during our first season, the moment Kelly Wiglesworth lost to Richard Hatch in the summer of 2000," Probst said in a statement. "Since their respective seasons ended, these players have been begging for another shot, and this is a fun way to allow our loyal fans to be involved in the creative process."

Wiglesworth is among the 32 former players who are eligible for votes, although most hail from recent seasons - including five Worlds Apart contestants who, if chosen, will be competing two seasons in a row. The Worlds Apart contenders are: Joe Anglim, Shirin Oskooi, Max Dawson, Carolyn Rivera and Mike Holloway. (If either Mike and Carolyn, who are both still in the game on Worlds Apart, is named Sole Survivor, they are ineligible to compete in Season 31.)

Other fan favorite contestants seeking another shot at a million dollars include Spencer Bledsoe (Survivor: Cagayan), Stephanie Valencia (Survivor: Redemption Island) and Stephen Fishbach (Survivor: Tocantins). See the full list of former players here.

Voting opens today, and the Season 31 cast will be revealed during the Season 30 live reunion show, which airs on May 20 on CBS. Fans can visitcbs.com/survivorsecondchance to cast their votes through May 20 at 9 p.m. ET.
