Sylvester Stallone Brings 'Rocky' to Broadway

One of the most famous boxing stories to ever hit the big screen is headed to Broadway. The man himself, Sylvester Stallone, announced that he's bringing Rocky to the stage in a new musical.

Set to hit New York City in March 2014, the play sets out to do the same thing as the 1976 film did: "Bring to life the iconic and inspiring story of struggling small time Philly boxer, Rocky Balboa, who gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to go the distance against heavyweight champ Apollo Creed."

"I couldn't be more proud or more excited about this production and how my original story of Rocky Balboa has been brought to spectacular life onstage," said Stallone, the original star and screenwriter of Rocky. "The story of Rocky was very much like my life at the time -- starting out with nothing, having to fight for roles and recognition. So I put those feelings into the body of a boxer and I had no idea there were so many millions of people that felt the same way."

Preview performances begin on Broadway in February at the Winter Garden Theatre, but the world premiere already took place this past fall in Hamburg, Germany, where it earned critical acclaim and still plays to packed houses.
