TCA: Pivot Renews Josh Thomas' 'Please Like Me' Ahead of Premiere

Pivot, Participant Media's new network targeted toward millennials, has given a second season to the scripted comedy "Please Like Me" ahead of its Aug. 1 premiere, the network announced at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Beverly Hills on Friday.

The series, starring Australian comedian Josh Thomas, is a coming-of-age comedy partly inspired by "the painfully awkward events" of Thomas' life.

"Everyone who sees 'Please Like Me' falls in love with Josh and this series because it's a hysterical, authentic snapshot of a quarter life crisis in the 21st century," Pivot president Evan Shapiro said.

The network also announced that it had tapped Jacob Soboroff from "HuffPost Live" and fellow Huffington Post veteran Cara Santa Maria as the first co-hosts of its live late-night show "TakePart Live."

The series will be equal parts "serious discussion and comedic take," according to the network.

Other Pivot offerings include:

"Raising McCain," the "genre-busting docu-talk series" starring Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain, which premieres Sept. 14, and half-hour variety show "hitRECord on TV!" from "Inception" star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, which will present content collaboratively created from a community of providers. That series premieres Jan. 18, 2014.
