Tom Hardy event series “Taboo” has landed a director.

Kristoffer Nyholm — the Danish filmmaker who directed the original Scandinavian version of crime drama “The Killing” — has signed on to direct the first four episodes of the eight-part dramatic miniseries, a representative for the filmmaker told TheWrap on Thursday.

The period drama will follow Hardy (“Mad Max: Fury Road”) as rogue adventurer James Keziah Delaney, who returns from Africa in 1813 with 14 ill-gotten diamonds and is bent on avenging his father’s death. Refusing to sell the family business to the East India Company, Delaney sets out to build his own trade and shipping empire and finds himself playing a very dangerous game.

“Taboo,” which was originally commissioned by BBC One, will also air on FX. Sonar Entertainment will distribute the project internationally.

Ridley Scott’s Scott Free London is producing with Hardy’s Hardy Son & Baker and creator Steven Knight (“Locke”).

Outside of “The Killing,” Nyholm’s credits include Paris-set crime drama “Jo,” and Danish TV series “The Village.”
