Many reality stars have gone on to perform as guest stars on TV and in movies. A star from "So You Think You Can Dance" may land a slew of guest spots for characters that dance. A few reality show stars, however, get the chance to prove themselves as actors. Here are the top reality show stars who got the chance to show the world that they're excellent actors.

Emma Stone: "In Search of the Partridge Family"

People may not realize that Emma Stone got her start from an VH1 contest reality show called "In Search of the Partridge Family," where she won the role of Laurie Partridge in the TV movie "The New Partridge Family." Her acting career soared after that, as she has worked nonstop ever since in popular, successful movies, such as "The Help" and "Crazy, Stupid, Love."

Katharine McPhee: "American Idol"

America still remembers Katharine McPhee's runner-up performance on "American Idol" in 2006. According to CNN Money, it was the most-watched season of "American Idol" at the time. McPhee was highly popular, and has been entertaining ever since with guest roles until landing her current role on the hit show "Smash." For viewers who had only seen her sing, it was quite a pleasant surprise to see that McPhee can really act and pull off the role believably.

David Giuntoli: "Road Rules"

As David Giuntoli points out in an E! Online interview, he is consistently recognized for his current role as the lead character on "Grimm," rather than for his 2003 stint on "Road Rules." Four years after appearing on the reality show, he landed his first acting gig, and has been working non-stop ever since doing various guest roles on everything from "Grey's Anatomy" to "Eli Stone" until landing the role of Nick Burkhardt on "Grimm." His easily relatable understated performance and great on-screen chemistry with Silas Weir Mitchell as Monroe is a joy to watch.

Jacinda Barrett: "The Real World"

The Australian-born Jacinda Barrett was first introduced to the United States on the fourth season of "The Real World," which was set in London in 1992. Five years later, she landed her first acting role in the horror flick "Campfire Tales." Since then, she has proven to be an extremely talented actress, working with some of Hollywood's finest on TV and in movies. She is best known for her roles in "Poseidon," "The Last Kiss," and "Ladder 49."

Jennifer Hudson: "American Idol"

Jennifer Hudson was another "American Idol" alum, garnering only a seventh place position on the show. That disappointing finish was by no means the end of her career, as she attained a dream role soon after in the film "Dreamgirls." She was quite impressive too, being the first "American Idol" performer to be nominated for and win an Academy Award.
