TVLine Items: Taye Diggs to Tempt New Girl, LeVar Burton Returns to Community and More

New Girl has cast a sexy obstacle for Nick and Jess.

Private Practice vet Taye Diggs will guest-star in a Season 3 installment of the Fox comedy, per The Hollywood Reporter, playing a “smooth, confidant ladies man” who sets his sights on Jess.

Diggs will appear in the seventh episode of Girl’s new season — the same half-hour that marks the return of Damon Wayans Jr.’s Coach.

• Prepare to be tongue-tied once more, Troy: LeVar Burton is headed back to Greendale. Sources confirm to TVLine that the Reading Rainbow frontman will make a repeat appearance as himself in Community‘s upcoming fifth season. Burton made his first cameo in Season 2, where he encountered — and star-struck — his aforementioned No. 1 fan.

• The Good Wife will welcome back Nathan Lane in Season 5. Per TVGuide.com, the actor will reprise his Emmy-nominated role as trustee Clarke Hayden, who returns to help Cary and Alicia launch their own firm. Good Wife returns Sunday, Sept. 29.

• Lea Thompson (Switched at Birth) will guest-star in a November sweeps installment of CSI, TVGuide.com reports, playing a defense criminalist working closely with Finlay (played by fellow Back to the Future II/III alum Elisabeth Shue).

• Rosie O’Donnell is joining ABC Family’s The Fosters in the recurring role of Rita Hendricks, a tough yet compassionate woman who works in the foster care system and becomes a mentor to a member of the Foster clan. The series returns in January.

• ABC will air Scandal: The Secret is Out, a one-hour catch-up special, on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 8/7 — the same night as the Season 3 premiere.

• BBC America has unveiled a glimpse of Burton and Taylor, the cabler’s upcoming telepic (bowing Oct. 16) starring Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter and centering on the tumultuous Tinseltown twosome:
