Gojdics, who sometimes spelled his last name Gaydos, had worked as a fisherman, horse wrangler, blacksmith, forest service firefighter, river guide and wilderness guide. He appeared on the second season of Ultimate Survivor Alaska last year, but sustained an injury that cut his time on the show short.

"We were saddened to learn of Mr. Gaydos' untimely passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time," National Geographic spokesman Chad Sandhas told The Associated Press.
