Victoria Siegel of ‘Queen of Versailles’ Family Died of Fatal Overdose, Autopsy Reveals

Victoria Siegel, the daughter “Queen of Versailles” subjects David and Jacqueline Siegel, died from a fatal overdose of prescription drugs, the Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner’s Office announced Wednesday.

On June 6, the 18-year-old was found unresponsive at the family’s Seagull Island mansion in Windermere, Florida.

Interim Chief Medical Examiner Joshua Stephany, who conducted the initial autopsy on June 7, ruled the death as accidental, listing the cause as “acute methadone and sertraline toxicity,” the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Methadone, a prescription painkiller, is sometimes used to help alleviate the withdrawal symptoms suffered by drug addicts, while Sertraline, (also known as Zoloft), is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, or SSRI, used to treat depression.

According to the toxicology report, Victoria’s bloodstream contained 26 times the amount of sertraline found in people with prescriptions for the antidepressant.

“Each of those levels by themselves could have been fatal,” Stephany said, adding that the amount of drugs she ingested likely led to respiratory problems, fluid in her lungs and heart failure.

Siegel had long struggled with an addiction to prescription drugs that she initially began taking for a seizure condition, according to family spokesperson Michael Marder. She had completed a rehab program a month before her death.

Victoria’s parents will speak out about their loss for the first time on Thursday on “Inside Edition,” with her mother, Jackie, revealing she can not return to their famous home.

“It’s the most horrible thing I have ever experienced, and I personally have not stepped foot inside the house since Victoria died,” she said. “I haven’t been back to the house. One of the bedrooms was going to be her’s and I haven’t been back there.”

In Victoria’s memory, the Siegel family has set up The Victoria Siegel Foundation to help teens struggling with addiction.
