‘The View’s’ Whoopi Goldberg Blasts Baltimore Rioters: ‘Shame on You’

“The View” hosts jumped right into the week’s hot-button issue on Tuesday’s show: The rioting that took place in Baltimore on Monday following Maryland resident Freddie Gray’s funeral. The ABC talk show’s panelists were quick to criticize participants engaging in arson, assault and property damage.

“What you’ve done to other strangers negates everything that you’re marching for,” Whoopi Goldberg said to the violent offenders. “I know, young people, you’re mad — but there are better ways to do it … Shame on you.”

Nicolle Wallace also pointed a finger, assigning blame to social media site Twitter.

“This was a separate, deliberate criminal action, fueled by social media, rallied and organized on Twitter,” Wallace said. “And I wonder what role Twitter has in tipping off law enforcement.”

Gray was taken into police custody on April 12. Over the next 45 minutes, he suffered a fatal spinal cord injury while in police custody.

The cause of his death is still unknown. Gray was 25.

Another Tuesday “View” “Hot Topic” with a race element surrounded a group of Native Americans who recently walked off the set of Adam Sandler‘s film “The Ridiculous Six,” saying the material contained harsh and unfair stereotypes.

One of Tuesday’s guest hosts, Cristela Alonzo, shared her own “Ridiculous” story with studio audience. Alonzo was asked to audition for a role in the Sandler film, but the character had such an offensive name that the “Cristela” star declined to even read for producers. Apparently, it was so bad that the women couldn’t even say the name on TV. Fast-forward one month, and Alonzo wasn’t surprised by on-set turmoil.

“That’s what happens when you trust your gut,” she patted herself on the back.

“You can’t tell somebody that something’s not offensive,” Alonzo added, blasting the film’s producers. “If they think it’s offensive — guess what? — it’s offensive.”
