‘The View’s’ Whoopi Goldberg Grills Ben Carson on Abortion

“The View’s” Whoopi Goldberg asked some tough questions of GOP Presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson when he visited the ABC daytime talk show on Tuesday.

Goldberg asked Carson about comments he made saying there is not a war on women, but rather a war on what’s inside of women. “We are killing babies all over the place,” Carson said.

When asked if he was empathetic to women who made the decision to get an abortion, Caron replied, “What we need to do is make sure that we provide adequate day care centers for these mothers, so that they can get their GED, their associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree.”

“You’re assuming these are women that are not educated,” Goldberg said. Carson responded, “I’m talking about most of them,” which drew an audible groan from the crowd.

“Let me tell you a fact,” Carson continued. “A lot of those young girls who are having babies out of wedlock, when they have that first baby they stop their education. And that child is four times more likely to grow up in poverty.”

Carson also had to defend comments he made comparing the Affordable Care Act to slavery.

“In this particular act the government comes along and said ‘I don’t care what you think. This is what we’re doing, we’re cramming it down your throat,'” he said. “That shifts the relationship between the people and government. The people are supposed to be at the pinnacle. The government works for us not the other way around. We need to restore that.”
