Alexandria Safe-Zone Is Not So Safe After All
Rick and his group forced the citizens of Alexandria to confront the new reality of the world in the end of Season 5. After Father Gabriel went off the rails and left the town’s front gate open, Rick was forced to dispatch several walkers single-handed. Deanna also realized her rosy approach to life won’t fly during the zombie apocalypse after Pete accidentally cut her husband’s throat with Michonne’s sword.

Rick Is Taking Charge of Alexandria–Even Without His Beard
Rick repeatedly warned the people of Alexandria that they were in danger, and only at the very end did they take him seriously. After nearly being exiled for fighting with Pete, he proved why he has been the leader of his group from the very beginning by pulling a gun on the town’s denizens and he keeping everyone safe from the walkers that Gabriel let into the town. He also showed no hesitation when he shot Pete for killing Deanna’s husband.

Glenn Is Still the Best
Glenn has suffered as much as anybody on the show if not more, including that insane scene in Season 3 when he fought a walker while tied to a chair. And yet despite almost losing faith in Season 5, he still can’t bring himself to kill Nicholas, even after Nicholas cost the lives of five people and shot Glenn in the shoulder. Instead, he decides to carry him back to Alexandria, proving he is still one of the good guys.

Morgan Has Finally Caught Up
Fans of the show have been waiting for Morgan to finally reconnect with Rick after their brief meetings in Seasons 1 and 3 and a handful of appearances on Rick’s trail since then. He came out of nowhere to save Daryl and Aaron from a hoard of walkers that have them pinned inside a car. After Daryl sees that Morgan possesses Abraham’s map with Rick’s name on it, they lead him back to Alexandria.

Carl Is a Stud in the Making
Carl enjoyed brief flirtations with Beth in earlier seasons, but Season 5 saw him come into his own by getting close with fellow survivor Enid in Alexandria. Carl followed her out into the woods beyond the walls and the young couple shared a charged moment hiding inside an old tree as a group of walkers passed by them.

Sasha and Gabriel Have Hope Again
Both Sasha and Father Gabriel struggled to keep their heads on straight during Season 5. Gabriel suffered a major loss of faith, to the point where he tore pages out of his Bible and nearly let a walker kill him. Sasha lost her brother Tyrese and boyfriend Bob, and took to lying in a pit of dead walkers in her free time. But after almost killing each other, Maggie convinced them both to keep going through the power of prayer.

Daryl Still Has to Find His Place Inside the Walls of Alexandria
Daryl struggled to adjust to the more settled life inside Alexandria. He found new purpose, however, when Aaron asked him to be come a new recruiter for the town. The two of them ventured beyond the walls and were able to find Morgan, but will Daryl’s new position in the community keep him from roaming?

Michonne Has to Take Up Her Sword Again
Michonne hung up her sword after the group reached Alexandria. She was hoping to put her past behind her and start fresh. But as the Season 6 trailers have shown, there’s no rest for the group in sight, as they will have to do battle to keep their new home safe and there will no doubt be plenty of walker decapitation along the way.

The Wolves Are Closing In
The appearance of the Wolves, a group of vicious scavengers, was hinted throughout Season 5 as the group found numerous walkers and dead bodies with W’s carved into their forehead. Morgan also dispatched two members of the group in the woods, but left them alive. At the end of the season, those same two Wolves found Aaron’s bag containing photographs of Alexandria.
