‘The Walking Dead’ Midseason Finale Ends on Bloody Note

(Spoiler alert: Do not read on if you have not seen Sunday night’s Season 6 midseason finale of “The Walking Dead”)

The Season 6 midseason finale of “The Walking Dead” picked up right where last week left off, with the church tower collapsing into the walls of Alexandria. As soon as a section of the wall is down, walkers flood inside.

Rick (Andrew Lincoln) warns people to get back into their homes. We also learn that Eugene (Josh McDermitt) is the one whom Daryl (Norman Reedus) heard say “Help” over the radio in Episode 6.

Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh) sustains a leg wound as the walkers enter Alexandria. While cleaning the wound, Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Rick see that it is a bite mark. Deanna responds appropriately with, “Well, shit.”

Ron (Austin Abrams), who was preparing to shoot Carl (Chandler Riggs) at the end of Episode 7, pulls a gun on Carl in his family’s garage. They fight, which attracts walkers. Rick gets them out of the garage just in time. Carl refuses to rat Ron out, and instead confronts him later when they are alone.

Rick also shares an emotional exchange with Deanna. She tells him that the people of Alexandria are his people whether he knows it or not. She knows it will be up to him to lead once she is dead.

Elsewhere in the community, Carol (Melissa McBride) finally gets into the cell where Morgan (Lennie James) has been keeping the Wolf he captured at the end of episode two. Carol and Morgan have a tense standoff, with Carol insisting the Wolf must die and Morgan believing they must not kill to set themselves apart from their enemies.

Carol is knocked out, but in the midst of the fighting, the Wolf incapacitates Morgan and takes Denise (Merritt Wever) hostage in order to escape. We do not see what happens to them after they exit onto the walker-infested streets.

Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Enid (Katelyn Nacon) were largely missing from the episode, save for a brief scene in the beginning and a final one at the end when they can be seen climbing a tree and surveying all of the walkers inside the walls.

The episode ends with Deanna going out in a blaze of glory as she uses her last bullets to kill several walkers. Rick then covers himself and a small group that includes Carl and Michonne with walker entrails, hoping it will disguise them enough to reach Alexandria’s armory.
