White House Correspondents’ Dinner: Cecily Strong Admits President Obama a Tough Act to Follow

“Saturday Night Live” star Cecily Strong delivered several zinger’s during her headlining gig at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. But the NBC talent admits she was forced to change her routine after President Obama stole some of her thunder.

“I kept checking in with my writers — I knew where they were sitting — and I would go, ‘Should we keep it? Cut it?'” There were two I chose to cut,” Strong told “Meet The Press” host Chuck Todd in an interview taped immediately after the dinner, but she didn’t say what the jokes were about.

“I was kind of like, ‘oh, that was really good, wasn’t it? They’re really liking him,'” Strong said about the President’s killer performance, adding that she now understands how other WHCD hosts felt taking the mic after the Commander in Chief.

“I think he always does well, especially in that world, when he’s making a speech and being funny, that’s what he does really, really well.”

Strong was well-received but overshadowed by the President.

Obama took jabs at his adversaries, including House Speaker John Boehner and former vice president Dick Cheney, who criticized Obama as “the worst president of [his] lifetime.”

“Which is interesting, because I think Dick Cheney is the worst president of my lifetime,” Obama zinged.
