Wilfred Renewed for Season 3

Dog might be man’s best friend, but today, FX is one pup’s closest pal.

Wilfred has been picked up for a 13-episode Season 3, the cabler announced Wednesday.

The dark comedy’s third cycle will find writer/producers Reed Agnew and Eli Jorné taking the helm as co-showrunners, replacing former Wilfred boss David Zuckerman, who will remain on board as an executive producer.

“David Zuckerman has done an amazing job adapting and reconceiving Wilfred for FX,” Executive Vice President of Original Programming Nick Grad said in a statement. “It was his decision to step down from the [showrunner's] post, but we’re very happy he is going to stay involved with the show. Both we and David have great faith in the ability of Reed and Eli to seamlessly step up and take over the reins. I have no doubt they’ll do a great job.”

Production on Wilfred‘s third season is slated to begin next spring, with new episodes bowing in June 2013.
